A bridge is a permanent, fixed series of crowns that replaces missing teeth.  The teeth on either side of a missing tooth are prepped for traditional crowns (abutments).  An impression is then taken of the teeth.  The dentist will carefully determine the correct shade and shape of the missing tooth (pontic) and send the instructions to a dental laboratory where the bridge will be fabricated.  A temporary bridge will be made and worn until your next appointment.

In this example, the permanent bridge will consist of three joined crowns and must be carefully checked and adjusted before cementation to assure a proper fit.  Dental bridges are highly durable and should last many years with regular cleaning and checkups.
